UK Election initial view- Sound bite politics

Declaration of interest – I must have an interest otherwise why would I blog. I consider myself a “floating voter” and have voted for the three main parties previously. More recently Conservative. Often jus ton the basis that Labour have no electable cabinet.

So here we are in the UK election period.  This time, more than any other, this election will be fought on sound bites and not substantive issues. Why you ask. As I see it, not one of the three main parties has any thought-out policy to put out to the electorate.

Conservatives – are in disarray and look like a party who have had enough. Their main thrust seems to be it is sort of working so stay with us!

Labour – not significantly better. Their main thrust is that Conservatives are in disarray vote for us. Our “Change” as they call it.

The backdrop of this is that the last 14 years have been a significant challenge for the population of the UK. Let’s not forget the COVID pandemic, war in Ukraine and war in the middle east. These have and are taking a dreadful toll around the World not just in the UK and we want someone to blame for this – step in the Conservatives with help from the Labour “cross hairs”.

The next 5 years can’t be any worse, can they? Well yes, they certainly can be. The country is on an economic and social knife-edge, Labour are untried for 14 years and have shown no real signs of being an effective opposition. So yes, they can cock it up well and truly.

Is it time for a reset of British politics?
